Early childhood is a crucial stage of life in terms of a child’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. Growth of mental and physical abilities progress at an astounding rate and a very high proportion of learning takes place from birth to age six. It is a time when children particularly need high quality personal care and learning experiences.
Education begins from the moment the child is brought home from the hospital and continues on when the child starts to attend playgroups and kindergartens. The learning capabilities of humans continue for the rest of their lives but not at the intensity that is demonstrated in the preschool years. With this in mind, babies and toddlers need positive early learning experiences to help their intellectual, social and emotional development and this lays the foundation for later school success.
With changing times and changing family scenarios in India, Raising children too has changed patterns. Ever since the trend of Nuclear families has set in here, the formative years of a child are more day care and pre school dependent hence Pre School has begun to matter a lot.The first education of the child generally usually began at home through parents and grand-parents and other family members. But, the picture is changing rapidly. Today, both the parents are working and live a busy lifestyle. Hence, they prefer to send their children to preschools for their elementary education. The preschools provide safe haven and ensure a happy and healthy atmosphere. The children tend to learn faster with other children of their age group. The Pre School thus has become a very important foundation stone to be laid in today’s age.
It is not just the scarcity of time that has led parents to look at a Pre School for their toddlers but the past few years when the admission process to the formal schools was nothing less than a IAS exam for the little ones, also pushed the parents to resort to early preparedness for that much desired Big School, thus the best way was to look at a Pre School.
It is indeed a very crucial concept now for parents as well as children . Pre Schools set the tone of routine at an early age for children and help in the development of basic skills. They also deal with the separation anxieties in children and give them the first taste of independence hence play a vital role in the elementary education of the child. While children in play school at such a young age are not expected to study, the knowledge is imparted through development of social skills in a group, playing with variety of toys, music, songs and various out door games and art and craft activities. A child is made to identify different objects, children are also made to develop different self help qualities along with basic etiquettes.
Pre schools have teachers who are trained to deal with this age of children and act as parents away from home. Each child is given special attention hence the teacher child ratio is much smaller as compared to formal schools, this helps in focussing on each child and understand and develop ways to teach them. It gives parents the confidence for their child’s readiness for formal school.
